VLAIO launches public consultation for CCS funding call

The Flemish Government has earmarked €1 billion for a dedicated, one-time funding call supporting large-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects in the Flemish process industry. VLAIO is preparing this call based on the Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) model and has launched a public consultation to gather input from industry.

The consultation runs from 5 October to 4 November 2026 and aims to ensure that the future funding call reflects the needs and expectations of the sector. Feedback from stakeholders will help shape the call's design and eligibility conditions, as well as support preparations for notification to the European Commission.

Focus on large-scale industrial CCS projects

The future funding call targets large-scale, structural CCS projects in the Flemish process industry with a substantial direct CO2 reduction impact. The call is expected to launch no earlier than the second quarter of 2027 and will require prior approval from the European Commission.

The public consultation is open to Flemish companies. Companies with annual emissions of at least 50,000 tonnes of CO2 will be informed directly about the consultation.
