SUPREME
SUPREME - Translation of Ultra-High Performance Mixed-Matrix Membranes for CO2 Separations -from Lab to Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing
The SUPREME project focuses on creating an up-scaled roll-to-roll membrane manufacture strategy on KU Leuven’s in-house pilot line for use in the urgently needed CO2 removal from flue gas, biogas or natural gas.
The SUPREME project primarily addresses the chemical, steel, cement and biogas industry. Backed by KU Leuven patents, 2 disruptive membrane platforms (i.e. ultra-high-performance, zeolite-filled mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) and polyether(PE)-based membranes) will be further developed to produce pilot-scale roll-to-roll modules for on-site tests under industrial conditions. With the groundbreaking performance of these membrane platforms, the SUPREME projects would provide an estimated CO2 reduction of 4.35 Mt the chemical industry and nearly 10 Mt for the heavy industries. In addition, this would occur at a CO2 capture and purification cost of <20-30 EUR/t, proving to be amply economically viable. In this manner, the SUPREME projects contributes significantly to goals of MOT3.
