Are climate goals and energy-intensive industries in conflict?
Europe aims to be climate neutral by 2050, but its energy-intensive industries face major challenges. Rising costs and global competition are putting pressure on key sectors such as steel, chemicals, and basic materials. This event brings together voices from industry, policy and society to explore the path forward.
Is there still a future for energy-intensive industries in Europe?
We are at a crossroads today. Europe wants to be climate neutral by 2050. At the same time, our manufacturing industry - the backbone of our prosperity - is under pressure. Sectors such as steel, chemicals, and basic materials are feeling the impact of rising energy prices, stricter regulations, and international competition.
So the key question is: Are our climate goals and a strong, competitive industry in conflict with each other? Or can we use innovation, policy, and cooperation to shape a sustainable and economic future?
This event brings together different perspectives from industry, politics, the environmental movement, and the economic world. It will explore the concerns of the sector, the ambitions of Europe and the critical views of civil society. The debate also gives space to the perspectives of young people, because it is their future that is at stake.
The discussion aims to explore answers, nuance and perhaps a shared vision for Europe's energy-intensive industries.
